This is the story of a boy Sunder (Govinda) a painter, who doesn’t believe in building castles in air, but struggles to make his dream a reality. He comes to the city for fame and stays with his three bachelor friends.
In his quest for work he lends up to a job of painting bill boards and hoarding on sky scrappers. He accepts and continues to pursue his dreams.
Then he accosts Payal (Rani Mukherji) and forgetting all his trials and tribulations, falls in love with her, but they both misunderstand each other as dumb.
Payal had come to India to learn Bharatnatyam and her Guruji asks her to meet a dumb person to be a proficient dancer so as to learn how to express emotions without words. So she meets Sunder again and in the process she reciprocates his loves. The trauma arises when both can’t confess that they are not dumb for fear of loosing each other.
