Humshakal is the story of two persons whose faces are same but they are unknown to each other. One is Vinod, a honesh police officer, staying with his mother, wife and daughter. Other is Sunil, who is a criminal and is going to be hanged bery shortly. Vinod's father-in-law is Commissioner, Din Dayal Kapoor. Vinods mission is to arrest Mr. D.D. who supplies weapons to the terrorists. Vinod reaches D.D.'s den while chasing a police officer who killed D.D.'s right hand man, but could not escape. After being shot by D.D., he jumps in water and ceases his life in operation theater. Commissioner Kapoor, shocked with this, decides to keep his death a secret. Now Sunil come in the picture, Commissioner Kapoor motivates Sunil to help him in discharging the incomplete duties of Vinod.
