A simple and innocent girl is forced to move to Bombay following communal riots. Once in Bombay, the struggle for survival takes its toll on Mumtaz and her uncle. At the advice of a slum dweller, Iqbal Chamdi, the uncle lets her dance in a beer bar, Chandni Bar, to earn money. This is merely temporary, he promises, until he gets a job.
