Police inspector Ram Kumar Sinha (Jackie Shroff) pays a visit to his prison-guard girlfriend, Ganga (Madhuri Dixit), and in the process accidentally lets his nemesis, the assassin Ballu (played to perfection by Sanjay Dutt), escape from jail. To help her boyfriend save face -- and his job -- Ganga goes undercover as a belly dancer to infiltrate Ballu's gang. But her plan goes awry when she starts to fall for the handsome rogue.
