Shalini, the daughter of a jailer comes to visit her father, who is responsible for looking after convicts undergoing sentences of rigorous imprisonment. Shalini is a poet and once while reciting her poetry she meets with Amar, a convict, who is also a poet himself. Shalini and Amar are attracted to each other. When she learns that Amar is in jail for killing the brother of his former lover, Sapna, she is aghast.
